[jitsi-dev] Pressing enter when typing a number into the dial box calls that number

#1

Hi,

I know this has come up before, but I thought I would ask about it again.

It would be *really* useful to have the option to press enter to dial the
contents of the dial input box.

Currently if you are in the contacts view (the little clock icon is out,
not pressed) then if you type a number into the search box it just
displays a white screen.

If pressing enter at this point could start a call with the first SIP
account that would be so useful.

Currently users have to press the little green phone icon next to number
in the search box, which is often missed by users.

If if this was just a properties file option that could be
enabled/disabled that would be great.

Thanks
Tom

Hey Tom,

Hi,

I know this has come up before, but I thought I would ask about it again.

It would be *really* useful to have the option to press enter to dial the
contents of the dial input box.

This would mean losing the enter key for openeing a chat, which is
arguably a more more common use case when you use Jitsi for both.

We do however have e shortcut combination for making a call and that's
Ctrl+Enter (or Cmd+Enter on mac)

Currently if you are in the contacts view (the little clock icon is out,
not pressed) then if you type a number into the search box it just
displays a white screen.

Actually this is supposed to be a panel containing the "Add Contact" and
"Call" options and Ctrl+Enter is also supposed to work there. But
apparently it's broken ... and we'll probably think of another way to
represent this.

Could you please open a ticket for this?

If pressing enter at this point could start a call with the first SIP
account that would be so useful.

Yes, and that green phone is only there to allow you to call the content
of the box, rather than a contact that matches the string but is not
exactly the same.

Thanks
Emil

Hi Emil,

I see, could there be an option to set the default action.

Currently pressing enter does not open a chat either if it has not found a
contact, nothing happens.

We are primarily targeting phone uses rather than chat, and our users I
doubt could cope with a 2-part keyboard shortcut (we had to explain to
them how to dial a number using a physical hardphone on their desks!!).

Cheers
Tom
