[jitsi-dev] No audio devices found

#1

I have jitsi installed from the nightly repository for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
for amd64 and it is not finding any useful audio systems, only Audio
System : audiosilence. Other applications on the same account are able
to play audio and get input from the microphone. What needs to be
changed to restore audio functionality?

Regards,
/Lars

$ apt-cache policy jitsi
jitsi:
  Installed: 2.5.5319-1

$ uname -pso
Linux x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS
Release: 14.04

Is anyone else seeing this?

It'd be useful to see the output that jitsi emits when it's started (to
see if, for example, Pulse Audio is properly detected and configured)
and when you open the audio settings pane. Can you please share the
jitsi logs with us? Typically you can find them here:

    ~/.jitsi/logs/

FWIW, I'm on Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS 64-bit but I'm not getting this behavior.

I've sent some logs attached off-list.

Wiping the profile and starting Jitsi anew appeared to help a few times,
but doesn't do anything now. Maybe that was coincidence. Other
applications, such as Linphone or Firefox, seem to have no problem with
the sound. Callers also report a hiss or similar noise when I use
Jitsi. It is present even when I have used the physical mute switch,
but not present with Linphone or Audacity.

/Lars

Something appears to be wrong with your installation. Jitsi can't find
the JNI libraries. They should be installed under
"/usr/share/jitsi/lib/native". Do you have any files there?

Yes. There are whatever came with the basic 14.04 LTS installation.
It's a fairly fresh re-install of the whole system as of the other day:

$ ls /usr/share/jitsi/lib/native
libgalagonotification.so libjnffmpeg.so libjnspeex.so
libglobalshortcut.so libjng722.so libjnvideo4linux2.so
libhid.so libjnopus.so libjnvpx.so
libhwaddressretriever.so libjnportaudio.so libjunbound.so
libjdic_misc.so libjnpulseaudio.so
libsysactivitynotifications.so
libjnawtrenderer.so libjnscreencapture.so libunix-java.so

/Lars

Just a follow up. I'm still getting the same error, there are no audio
devices found by Jitsi. When I check Tools-> Options-> Audio System, it
says only "audiosilence" and "None" for choices.

As to the installation, I did a new fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
since the above message and added Jitsi again from the nightly repository:

  deb http://download.jitsi.org/nightly/deb unstable/

$ apt-cache policy jitsi
jitsi:
  Installed: 2.5.5338-1
  Candidate: 2.5.5338-1
  Version table:
*** 2.5.5338-1 0
  ...

Linphone seems to work fine, but looks like it is using alsa. So
perhaps this is not a Jitsi problem?

/Lars
