[jitsi-dev] Manual for [uri-to-call]

#1

Hi, I am trying to embed contact links into an email/web page that will initiate videocalls over xmpp via jitsi.

Using a simple jistsi.exe xmpp:someone@jabber.org I can initiate a chat with someone in my address book.

However I can find no information online, regarding the syntax & formatting or the [uri-to-call] with regard to jitsi.

I have tried uri examples from <http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5122> http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5122 but to no avail.

Could anyone please point me in the right direction.

James

I would also be interested in this.

Here's the html I used:
<a href="xmpp:node@example.com">xmpp:node@example.com</a>

I didn't have anything happen when I clicked on the link. (Tested using
Firefox 21, Windows 7, Jitsi 2.3.4685.9783)

The XMPP wiki page suggests adding a string to the Firefox about:config
http://wiki.xmpp.org/web/XMPP_URIs

I tried adding the "network.protocol-handler.app.xmpp" as the preference
name and
""C:\Program Files\Jitsi\Jitsi.exe"" as the application to run.

Since I still wasn't having any luck I tried editing the Windows
registry as suggested on the same web page:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xmpp]
@="URL:XMPP Protocol"
"EditFlags"=dword:00000002
"URL Protocol"=""
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xmpp\shell]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xmpp\shell\open]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\xmpp\shell\open\command]
@="C:\Program Files\Jitsi\Jitsi.exe %l"

Still no luck.

Hey James,

Right, opening a chat is all we currently do for XMPP URIs. We normally start calls for SIP. Could you please open a ticket?

Thanks,
Emil

I just tried clicking on an xmpp-link from within chrome, and the a
Jitsi-popup asked me which account I want to use to initiate a chat
(although it appeared in the background). So I don't think it's currently
possible to directly start a call with the "xmpp:" handler.

Okay, now I get those the Jitsi-popup too. Maybe I just needed to
restart the computer after changing the registry?
