[jitsi-dev] Jitsi-Meet with server-side recordings

#1

Howdie Jitsi Devs!

I run a coaching website which throws coaches and students into video chats
so they can talk/learn together. Currently we use Skype, and I am looking
for alternatives - particularly alternatives that would allow me to take
server-side recordings of the lessons.

I stumbled across Jitsi the other day and am very excited to have found
it! I think the jirecon library <https://github.com/jitsi/jirecon> can be
used for server-side recordings from my own jitsi-meet + videobridge
instances ... but also learned that jirecon is maybe in a state of disrepair
<https://github.com/jitsi/jirecon/issues/15>.

Does anybody have recent experience with jirecon? Is it working or not?
Are there other alternatives to this library for server-side recording with
Jitsi?
If it is broken, is there somebody who would be interested in scoping out
the work required to restore it to grandeur? If it is reasonable in size,
I'd be willing to go for it.

Thanks and nice to meet you!

Kenn

It does not work with recent versions of jitsi-meet. I think it stopped working about a year ago, and I suspect that even more incompatibilities have been introduced in that time.

You should check out the jibri project[0], which is the replacement for jirecon. By default it streams the recorded video to youtube, but it can easily be modified to (also) save in a file locally.

Boris
