[jitsi-dev] Jitsi for Linux not starting on JDK 8

#1

I'm writing to ask whether anyone has tried to run Jitsi for Linux
with JDK 8. I tried today and the process died with a fatal IO error
11 and something about X and :0. Has anyone seen it?

I haven't examined it too closely, I traced it to discovery that
deleting libjnportaudio.so i.e. disabling the PortAudio integration in
Jitsi allows the application to start fine.

I'm not sure if this is related, but we use an X function that has been deprecated for some time and now removed. There's a bug report on Ubuntu's Launchpad for that.
Doesn't make much sense though if you get it working by deleting portaudio...

Could it be a coincidence that it works when you disable PortAudio?
What's the exact error you're getting? I've run into a similar (X
related) problem with Ubuntu 14.04 and JDK8 but I don't remember what
the error message was.

It could be a problem with Compiz because as soon as I switched to
another window manager (JWM), the problem was gone and Jitsi runs fine
with JDK8 since then.

Cheers,
George
