Hello,

With the recent dev versions Jitsi tends to use too much memory:

Looking at top, the resident memory size is ~400MB (!) after starting it. It is too much for a messenger. I recall it used ~200MB not long ago. But 400MB is just too much.

Anyone else having this issue?

#3

Do you remember when this happened? Do you have the issue with thr stable?
Have you changed Java versions in the mean time?

Right now I don't quite see what could have caused this.

I just started Jitsi. The java process there is Jitsi. See the RESident memory usage below (this is from top):

I have 1 Yahoo, 1 Gmail, 1 SIP and 1 Facebook account configured. Interestingly, for some reason once the Facebook account failed to log in and Jitsi had ~310M resident usage. ~100 MB is a bit much for an account... And 400+ MB is definitely too much per total.

If i add CLIENTARGS="-client -Xmx256m" in the jitsi launcher script, it uses ~205-215mb.
Right now the script adds the Xmx option only on 32 bit arch it seems:

if [ $ARCH -eq 32 ]
then
     CLIENTARGS="-client -Xmx256m"
fi

Is it a problem if the heap size is limited to 256mb in 64 bit arch? It seems to run fine with it.

PS. top, jitsi is the lower java process (204mb):

top - 23:54:36 up 3:30, 7 users, load average: 0.39, 0.24, 0.24
