[jitsi-dev] Jitsi 2.0 does not correctly authenticate in Ubuntu 12.04.2 (stable version)

#1

Hi

I wrote this issue in jitsi-user but nobody answers me with any solution
or idea. I hope you can help me.

The old thread:

I have a strange problem with jitsi XMPP. I have some jitsi 2.0

installed in my network. The same version (jitsi latest 32 bits).

In my Ubuntu 12.10 (with all updates) all is OK. I connect with my

xmpp account to the XMPP server (Openfire with Active Directory
connection configured).

In a Ubuntu 12.04 32b (with all updates). I connect with my xmpp

account and all is ok.

In other Ubuntu 12.04 32b (with all updates) Jitsi fails to

authenticate ??? with the same account, but other IM clients like
Pidgin connects with the same account.

With Windows and MacOS X, jitsi client connects ok with the same

account and same version.

The log with fail:

I dont know why the same account authentication fails in jitsi 2 in

some cases in the same distro, and not Pidgin. Any suggestion?

I have done more testings

I have the same system (Ubunutu 12.04.2), the same version of java

and the same version of jitsi application installed in 2 systems:

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise

$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_27"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.12.3)

(6b27-1.12.3-0ubuntu1~12.04.1)

OpenJDK Client VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode, sharing)

$ jitsi -v
Jitsi 2.0.4506.10553

In the first system jitsi connect ok with XMPP account. Jitsi was

installed before and then Jitsi was upgraded to latest version and
configured ok with the account "account". Pidgin connects.

In the second system, jisti is installed (fresh installation). Jitsi

doesn't connect with "account" to the same server. Pidgin connects. BUT:
I have copied the .jitsi directory from first system to second system
and Jitsi connects with the same account....

There is somthing wrong in .jitsi directory creation with new fresh

account configuration.

In Ubuntu 12.10 fresh installation of jitsi runs ok.

Jitsi 2.1 does not connect in 12.04.2.

I need a stable version of jitsi in Stable version of Ubuntu. Any

suggestion?

I have installed fresh jitsi in 12.04.2

If I copy .jitsi/sip-communicator.properties and
.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected ok
before in 12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits with copied
configurations and it connects ok to server. The difference in accounts
properties of sip-communicator.properties for the same account is this
lines from copied sip-communicator.properties and fresh
sip-communicator.properties :

net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=
net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com@voip.midominio.com=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is possible that
fresh installation doesnt create encrypted password correctly and fails
in authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

Thanks

I have installed fresh jitsi in 12.04.2

If I copy .jitsi/sip-communicator.properties and
.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected ok
before in 12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits with
copied configurations and it connects ok to server. The difference in
accounts properties of sip-communicator.properties for the same
account is this lines from copied sip-communicator.properties and
fresh sip-communicator.properties :

net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=
net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com@voip.midominio.com=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is possible
that fresh installation doesnt create encrypted password correctly and
fails in authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

Thanks

Hi

Any solution or idea?

What happens if you uncheck the "save password" button after copying the
working sip-communicator.properties?

I have installed fresh jitsi in 12.04.2

If I copy .jitsi/sip-communicator.properties and
.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected ok before
in 12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits with copied
configurations and it connects ok to server. The difference in accounts
properties of sip-communicator.properties for the same account is this
lines from copied sip-communicator.properties and fresh
sip-communicator.properties :

net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=

net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com
@voip.midominio.com=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is possible that
fresh installation doesnt create encrypted password correctly and fails in
authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

Thanks

Hi

Any solution or idea?

Hello

I've done the test you mention in Ubuntu 12.04.2 32b fully updatedtoday.

1. - I install Jitsi: 2.0.4506.10553 Jitsi
2. - I copy $ HOME/.jitsi from a Ubuntu 12.04.2 32b with updated Jitsi
that it works properly.
3. - Jitsi successfully connects.
4. - I disable the option "Remember Password"
5. - Jitsi fails to connect with the same password.

The error is related to SASL (PLAIN) authentication(see the log I sent
before).

Thanks and regards

I have installed fresh jitsi in 12.04.2

    If I copy .jitsi/sip-communicator.properties and
.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected
ok before in 12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits
with copied configurations and it connects ok to server. The
difference in accounts properties of sip-communicator.properties
for the same account is this lines from copied
    sip-communicator.properties and fresh sip-communicator.properties :

    net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com@voip.midominio.com
    <http://voip.midominio.com>=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is
possible that fresh installation doesnt create encrypted
password correctly and fails in authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

    Thanks

Hi

Is there any progress on this issue?

Could be a problem with the smack library?

Hello

I've done the test you mention in Ubuntu 12.04.2 32b fully updatedtoday.

1. - I install Jitsi: 2.0.4506.10553 Jitsi
2. - I copy $ HOME/.jitsi from a Ubuntu 12.04.2 32b with updated
Jitsi that it works properly.
3. - Jitsi successfully connects.
4. - I disable the option "Remember Password"
5. - Jitsi fails to connect with the same password.

The error is related to SASL (PLAIN) authentication(see the log I
sent before).

    Any suggestion?

I have installed fresh jitsi in 12.04.2

    If I copy .jitsi/sip-communicator.properties and
.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected
ok before in 12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits
with copied configurations and it connects ok to server. The
    difference in accounts properties of
sip-communicator.properties for the same account is this lines
    from copied sip-communicator.properties and fresh
    sip-communicator.properties :

    net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=
    net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com@voip.midominio.com
    <http://voip.midominio.com>=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is
possible that fresh installation doesnt create encrypted
password correctly and fails in authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

    Thanks

Hi,
as I understand the same Jitsi instance(jitsi build) connects ok with
a home folder copied from other machine and fails to connect using a
newly created account, right?
Unchecking "remember password" should ask you again for the password.
The ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD property is where the stored password is saved.
In which language do you run Jitsi? Can you test entering the password
using the english language interface (there was a reported problem
with French one),
Doubt it is a smack library problem, since you say with the same
version with different home it works.

Damian

I have installed fresh jitsi in 12.04.2

If I copy .jitsi/sip-communicator.properties and
.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected ok before in
12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits with copied
configurations and it connects ok to server. The difference in accounts
properties of sip-communicator.properties for the same account is this lines
from copied sip-communicator.properties and fresh
sip-communicator.properties :

net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=

net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com@voip.midominio.com=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is possible that
fresh installation doesnt create encrypted password correctly and fails in
authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

Thanks

Hi

I've done the test you mention in Ubuntu 12.04.2 32b fully updated today.

My language is Spanish.

1.- I have changed from Spanish to English Language.
2.- Restart jitsi. Jitsi does not connect.

···

-
3.- I have remove $HOME/.jitsi
4.- Restart jitsi.
5.- I have changed from Spanish to English Language.
6.- Restart jitsi. Jitsi does not connect.

Hello

I've done the test you mention in Ubuntu 12.04.2 32b fully updated today.

1. - I install Jitsi: 2.0.4506.10553 Jitsi
2. - I copy $ HOME/.jitsi from a Ubuntu 12.04.2 32b with updated Jitsi that
it works properly.
3. - Jitsi successfully connects.
4. - I disable the option "Remember Password"
5. - Jitsi fails to connect with the same password.

The error is related to SASL (PLAIN) authentication (see the log I sent
before).

Thanks and regards

The old thread:

I have a strange problem with jitsi XMPP. I have some jitsi 2.0
installed in my network. The same version (jitsi latest 32 bits).

In my Ubuntu 12.10 (with all updates) all is OK. I connect with my
xmpp account to the XMPP server (Openfire with Active Directory connection
configured).

In a Ubuntu 12.04 32b (with all updates). I connect with my xmpp
account and all is ok.

In other Ubuntu 12.04 32b (with all updates) Jitsi fails to
authenticate ??? with the same account, but other IM clients like Pidgin
connects with the same account.

With Windows and MacOS X, jitsi client connects ok with the same
account and same version.

I dont know why the same account authentication fails in jitsi 2 in
some cases in the same distro, and not Pidgin. Any suggestion?

I have done more testings

I have the same system (Ubunutu 12.04.2), the same version of java and
the same version of jitsi application installed in 2 systems:

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise

$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_27"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.12.3)
(6b27-1.12.3-0ubuntu1~12.04.1)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode, sharing)

$ jitsi -v

BUT: I
have copied the .jitsi directory from first system to second system and
Jitsi connects with the same account....

If I copy .jitsi/sip-communicator.properties and
.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected ok before in
12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits with copied
configurations and it connects ok to server. The difference in accounts
properties of sip-communicator.properties for the same account is this lines
from copied sip-communicator.properties and fresh
sip-communicator.properties :

net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=

net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com@voip.midominio.com=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is possible that
fresh installation doesnt create encrypted password correctly and fails in
authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

Thanks

Unchecking "remember password" should ask you again for the password.
The ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD property is where the stored password is saved.
In which language do you run Jitsi? Can you test entering the password
using the english language interface (there was a reported problem
with French one),
Doubt it is a smack library problem, since you say with the same
version with different home it works.

The ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD property is where the stored password is saved.
In which language do you run Jitsi? Can you test entering the password
using the english language interface (there was a reported problem
with French one),
Doubt it is a smack library problem, since you say with the same
version with different home it works.

In other Ubuntu 12.04 32b (with all updates) Jitsi fails to
authenticate ¿¿¿??? with the same account, but other IM clients like Pidgin
connects with the same account.

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise

$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_27"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.12.3)
(6b27-1.12.3-0ubuntu1~12.04.1)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode, sharing)

$ jitsi -v

BUT: I
have copied the .jitsi directory from first system to second system and
Jitsi connects with the same account....

If I copy .jitsi/sip-communicator.properties and
.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected ok before in
12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits with copied
configurations and it connects ok to server. The difference in accounts
properties of sip-communicator.properties for the same account is this lines
from copied sip-communicator.properties and fresh
sip-communicator.properties :

net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=

net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com@voip.midominio.com=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is possible that
fresh installation doesnt create encrypted password correctly and fails in
authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

Thanks

.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected ok before in
12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits with copied
configurations and it connects ok to server. The difference in accounts
properties of sip-communicator.properties for the same account is this lines
from copied sip-communicator.properties and fresh
sip-communicator.properties :

net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=

net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com@voip.midominio.com=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is possible that
fresh installation doesnt create encrypted password correctly and fails in
authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

Thanks

Hi

Any solution or idea?

Hi,

quick question: why is this going to both "dev@jitsi.java.net Jitsi" <dev@jitsi.java.net> and Jitsi Developers <dev@jitsi.org>? Shouldn't it be going to only the new address?

Best, steve

Unchecking "remember password" should ask you again for the password.
The ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD property is where the stored password is saved.
In which language do you run Jitsi? Can you test entering the password
using the english language interface (there was a reported problem
with French one),
Doubt it is a smack library problem, since you say with the same
version with different home it works.

In other Ubuntu 12.04 32b (with all updates) Jitsi fails to
authenticate ¿¿¿??? with the same account, but other IM clients like Pidgin
connects with the same account.

With Windows and MacOS X, jitsi client connects ok with the same
account and same version.

The log with fail:

I dont know why the same account authentication fails in jitsi 2 in
some cases in the same distro, and not Pidgin. Any suggestion?

I have done more testings

I have the same system (Ubunutu 12.04.2), the same version of java and
the same version of jitsi application installed in 2 systems:

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise

$ java -version
java version "1.6.0_27"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.12.3)
(6b27-1.12.3-0ubuntu1~12.04.1)
OpenJDK Client VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode, sharing)

$ jitsi -v

BUT: I
have copied the .jitsi directory from first system to second system and
Jitsi connects with the same account....

If I copy .jitsi/sip-communicator.properties and
.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected ok before in
12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits with copied
configurations and it connects ok to server. The difference in accounts
properties of sip-communicator.properties for the same account is this lines
from copied sip-communicator.properties and fresh
sip-communicator.properties :

net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=

net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com@voip.midominio.com=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is possible that
fresh installation doesnt create encrypted password correctly and fails in
authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

Thanks

Could you please send us the full log, including the .pcaps? Note that as
you are apparently using plaintext authentication, we would probably see
your password in there - therefore you might want to change it to something
for testing.

Also, would it be possible to get a test-account on your server?

(You can send the logs to one of the devs directly instead of to the list)

          The old thread:

                I have a

strange

problem with jitsi XMPP. I have some jitsi 2.0
                installed in

my

network. The same version (jitsi latest 32 bits).

                In my Ubuntu

12.10 (with all updates) all is OK. I connect with

my xmpp account

to the XMPP server (Openfire with Active

Directory connection

configured).

                In a Ubuntu

12.04 32b

(with all updates). I connect with my xmpp
                account and

all is ok.

                In other

Ubuntu 12.04

32b (with all updates) Jitsi fails to
                authenticate

¿¿¿???

with the same account, but other IM clients like Pidgin
                connects

with the same

account.

                With Windows

and MacOS

X, jitsi client connects ok with the same
                account and

same

version.

                I dont know

why the

                some cases

in the same

distro, and not Pidgin. Any suggestion?

              I have done more

              the same version of

(build 20.0-

b12, mixed mode, sharing)

              $ jitsi -v
              Jitsi 2.0.4506.10553

              In the first system

jitsi

connect ok with XMPP account. Jitsi was
              installed before and

then

Jitsi was upgraded to latest version and
              configured ok with

the account

"account". Pidgin connects.

              In the second

system, jisti is

installed (fresh installation). Jitsi
              doesn't connect with

"account"

to the same server. Pidgin connects. BUT: I
              have copied the

.jitsi

directory from first system to second system and
              Jitsi connects with

the same

account....

              There is somthing

wrong in

.jitsi directory creation with new fresh
              account

configuration.

              In Ubuntu 12.10

fresh

installation of jitsi runs ok.

            Jitsi 2.1 does not connect

in

12.04.2.

I need a stable version of

jitsi in

Stable version of Ubuntu. Any
            suggestion?

I have installed fresh jitsi in

12.04.2

          If I copy

.jitsi/sip-communicator.properties

and
          .jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a

old jitsi

that was connected ok before in
12.04.2 and was upgraded to new

jitsi, jitsi

inits with copied
configurations and it connects ok to

server.

The difference in accounts
          properties of

sip-communicator.properties

for the same account is this lines
          from copied

sip-communicator.properties and

fresh
          sip-communicator.properties :

net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYP

TED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=

net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFU

L_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com@voip.midominio.com=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but

not in new

jitsi. It is possible that
          fresh installation doesnt create

encrypted

password correctly and fails in
          authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

          Thanks

          Hi

          Any solution or idea?

Because it was originally sent to dev@jitsi.java.net which then
forwarded it here.

If I copy .jitsi/sip-communicator.properties and
.jitsi/sip-communicator.bin from a old jitsi that was connected ok before in
12.04.2 and was upgraded to new jitsi, jitsi inits with copied
configurations and it connects ok to server. The difference in accounts
properties of sip-communicator.properties for the same account is this lines
from copied sip-communicator.properties and fresh
sip-communicator.properties :

net.java.sip.communicator.impl.protocol.jabber.acc1362997213491.ENCRYPTED_PASSWORD=w4IwGWg5HoZQqNaM/BqsSg\=\=

net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.reconnectplugin.ATLEAST_ONE_SUCCESSFUL_CONNECTION.Jabber\:account@voip.midominio.com <mailto:account@voip.midominio.com>@voip.midominio.com=true

That lines exits in old jitsi but not in new jitsi. It is possible that
fresh installation doesnt create encrypted password correctly and fails in
authentication?

How could I correct this issue?

Thanks

Hi

Any solution or idea?
