[jitsi-dev] ICE status?

#1

Hi list,

I remember reading in 2013 and again last summer that ICE for SIP was in
the works for Jitsi.
I just downloaded latest nightly and noticed there is still no ICE. Am I
missing someting?
Has ICE support for jitsi been abandoned? If so, that is too bad because
that is the only must have feature that is still missing in Jitsi.

Cheers,
Peter

Hey Peter,

For a short while yes, but then it stopped.

No.

Has ICE support for jitsi been abandoned?

Abandoned - certainly not. But it is not being worked on currently.

If so, that is too bad because
that is the only must have feature that is still missing in Jitsi.

Then too bad indeed.

Thanks for answering my question Emil

Obviously when I say ICE is a "must have feature" I'm merely stating my own
opinion.
To me ICE is a must have because most other open source voip software
already have it (pjsip, linphone come to mind) and it really helps to work
around the typical NAT issues and also greatly improves latency and thus
call quality and user experience.

Anyway, I didn't mean to imply there was anything wrong with Jitsi. As you
know I'm a big fan of jitisi and have been for years.
For me at least, not having ICE in my favorite open source comm software is
too bad indeed.

Cheers,
Peter
