I was searching about a voip client to run as applet for video and audio
calls and I came across this page

You could probably just use something like meet.jit.si - would that do what
you wanted?

Nothing, and at least from the core team it's highly unlikely that anything will ever be done. However you might want to take a look at the (unsupported) WebStart-branch: https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi/tree/webstart

WebStart and applet have a lot in common.

WebStart offers more stability (better PC integration, phone keeps
working if browser crashes or if the user navigates off the page)

If you strictly want to run something in the page, consider pure WebRTC,
e.g. JSCommunicator
