[jitsi-dev] Feature request

Hi there,

I think Jitsi is a great project; however, I thinkt two features need to be
added before I can consider it usable:

1. A possibility to import contacts from CSV or a similar database. I don't
see how I could add my 200 contacts to Jitsi one by one.

2. A usable way of adding contacts manually. When adding a contact, there
should be one field for display name and one field for the number or
address. Instead, there is now a field for "contact name" and "display name"
- "display name" is ignored and "contact name" becomes both the display name
and the number/address. The only way to get it normal is to change the
display name afterwards by clicking on "Rename contact". This is far from
usable.

Furthermore, one thing that is not so necessary, but would be easy and make
it more usable:

3. When recording a call, it should be made possible to start recording
before the call is established so that one could make sure they can record
the whole call. Currently the recording button only becomes clickable once
the call is established, which means the first seconds might not be
recorded.

You can use them directly from you Outlook or Apple Address Book or from
Google Contacts. I am afraid we currently have no plans for supporting
CSV imports.

This is indeed the case.

Right, it was only bad naming though. We've now changed them to "Contact
ID" and "Display Name"

That's a bug indeed. Are you still having this? Which protocol does it
happen with?

Well it won't really be that easy unfortunately. The media internals
that we need for recording are not yet setup until the call gets
answered so we'd need to put any clicks on hold and dispatch them once
the streams have been initialized.

Doable of course but not trivial so probably not happening in the
immediate future.
