[jitsi-dev] Feature proposal and bug reporting

#1

Hi,

I think that the following would benefit Jitsi and perhaps is easy to
implement: Show other contact's status in a chat window, not only in the
contact list. As it is now, if I have a chat window open for a long
time, I have to go back to contact list to check if the person is still
online or why s/he is not responding.

My two colleagues just reported a 20 second lag using Jitsi (on jit.si)
between Montreal and Manila. They eventually had to switch to skype. I
have no other details and don't know whether it is a software or jit.si
issue. How can one log/debug this kind of issues, so they could be
eventually reported and troubleshooted on users' list?

thanks

karel

It is, indeed, possible to see contact's status from the cat window. Look at the icon on the upper left corner of the bottom part of the chat window - that's where you type. If the protocol icon is grayed out then the user is offline.

Thanks Pavel. Not terribly obvious, I *think*, because we were few of
us here wondering why this is not visible in the chat window, without
anyone noticing it is actually there, and in fact very nicely done
visually. Might deserve highlighting in user documentation.

thanks again

Hey folks,

It is, indeed, possible to see contact's status from the cat window.
Look at the icon on the upper left corner of the bottom part of the
chat window - that's where you type.

That's actually your own status. That's why it's in your part of the
window :).

The status of the contact appears at the top of the window or in the tab
itself. In there you see a green icon that can become grey or yellow
dependent on the contact status.

Hope this helps,
Emil

Hey Karel,

It appears that if you have only one open chat the status isn't showing on Ubuntu and OS X. Could you please file a bug report, attaching your screenshot to our issue tracker (https://jitsi.org/Development/NewIssue)?

The status images Emil was talking about are well visible on the following screenshot: https://jitsi.org/wiki/pub/sip-communicator/screenshots/chat-window.png.

Thanks,
Yana

happy to.

I see the same when I have several tabs open, as on the picture. But no
tabs -> no status icon. So is it really ubuntu/OS X specific or is it a
general issue when only one conversation is open? Will wait for you
reply before filling a bug report.

Hi,

yes, can confirm that on Kubuntu 12.10.
States are visible with multiple users but not with only
one user.

Cheers,

Hey Karel,

Just checked. The same thing on Windows. I thought it's shown in the title bar on the left of the name, but it's missing there too.

Thanks for filing the report.
