[jitsi-dev] dominant speaker detection

#1

Hello gentlemen,

I would like to incorporate dominant speaker detection feature in an app
which uses jitsi videobridge but does not use data channels.

Can you please elaborate on the possibilities to notify the peers about
dominant speaker related events trough a custom signaling channel?

In essence, I would like to understand if the focus component (not jicofo
but a custom one) can receive this information from the bridge and how?

In addition, could you please give me your thoughts about the the
advantages of server-side dominant speaker detection as opposed to the pure
client-side solution? As far as I know jitsi meet had been using hark
library for this purpose before the functionality was moved to the bridge.

Regards,
Mihail

We do not send (at the time of this writing) notifications about
dominant speaker switches via any other medium but WebRTC data
channels.

Hey Mihail,
Unfortunately I can't give you much in the way of details, but I do know
the bridge already pushes information to the focus. You could look at the
ColibriStatsTransport
<https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-videobridge/blob/c0587ef5d97ac763d5b8b147c41bdac15388c3c5/src/main/java/org/jitsi/videobridge/stats/ColibriStatsTransport.java>,
for example, which (from what I can tell) pushes information to the focus.
Hopefully that gives you somewhere to start.
