[jitsi-dev] Current State of Last N?

#1

I’ve been seeing some odd behavior with last-n enabled — for example, the n+1th client to join seems to experience a significant delay before receiving video from other clients. Also, the thumbnails shown on the bottom don't hide users not included in the last-n, instead showing a frozen picture for those users not in last-n.

Wasn’t sure if these issues were known already, so wanted to check.

Thanks!

Hi Domenic,

Do you have both simulcast and lastN enabled? If so, this could be the problem as having both features enabled at the same time is largely untested.

Also, the thumbnails shown on the bottom don't hide users not included in the last-n, instead showing a frozen picture for those users not in last-n.

We had a “smarter" implementation in the past that was hiding the thumbnails of the users that are outside of the lastN set but I _think_ it was removed because it wasn’t actively used and it was adding complexity in the code, so what you observe is “normal”.

Regards,
George
