[jitsi-dev] Contact list with SIP URI accounts

#1

Hi Group,

I'm trying to add a SIP URI to my contacts list so I don't need to type out
the entire URI each time I want to make the phone call to the end point.
The issue is that since this user isn't registered to an XMPP service or
SIP SIMPLE (or whatever to have a status), the user is always shown as
offline.

Is this expected behavior?

0. Open Jitsi 2.4.4996

a. Ensure you have offline contact hidden by going to Tools > Hide
offline contacts

1. Sign into your favorite SIP account

2. Go to file > add contact

3. Select your favorite SIP account
4. Select a group

5. ID or Number: 5597261300@voice.freeconferencecallhd.com

6. Display name: Jitsi Test

7. Click Add

8. Go to the group you just added the contact to

9. Are you able to see the Jitsi Test user that you added in steps 2-7?

10. Go to Tools > Show offline contacts?

11. Go to you group that you added the contact to in steps 2-7.

12. Are you able to locate this user?

13. Make a call to this user.

14. Hang up

15. Go to Call History

16. Click the silhouette icon with the plus sign

17. Select the same SIP account that you selected in step 1

18. Select the same group that you selected in step 4.

19. Press Add

20. Observe that the message acknowledges that you have already added this
contact.

Possible Problems with steps above:

0. For me to select the Jitsi Test user, I must display both online and
offline contacts even though I never advise Jitsi that the user Jitsi User
has a presence status. We know that you can enable/disable account presence
status at tools > accounts > [select account] > Edit > Presence >
uncheck/check SIMPLE box, but there’s not a way to let Jitsi know a
particular URI will NEVER have a presence status and for it to always show
that particular contact as online.

1. I’m not able to add the account created in step 5 to a
*different*group because of error message below:

2.

net.java.sip.communicator.service.contactlist.MetaContactListException:
failed to create contact 5597261300@voice.freeconferencecallhd.com

            at
net.java.sip.communicator.impl.contactlist.MetaContactListServiceImpl.addNewContactToMetaContact(MetaContactListServiceImpl.java:415)

Caused by:

            at
net.java.sip.communicator.impl.contactlist.MetaContactListServiceImpl.addNewContactToMetaContact(MetaContactListServiceImpl.java:405)

            ... 2 more

Are the behaviors above expected results?

Thanks,

Jungle

Hi Emil,

But how would that be different by just showing offline accounts?

Well the user would get to select what contacts to show offline. As of now,
all contacts online are displayed or all offline are displayed.

Objective: The ability to have a "speed dial" by adding a contact and
double clicking the contact to make a call. Granted, if a contact has
already been added, you can easily type in the contact name to search and
double click there to call.

Thanks,
J

If your provider does not do presence then, yes, your contacts will
appear offline.

It should appear in search results regardless of whether or not you are
showing offline contacts

Hi Emil,

>But how would that be different by just showing offline accounts?

Well the user would get to select what contacts to show offline. As of
now, all contacts online are displayed or all offline are displayed.

You mean: setting some providers as "always online" while others not? OK, I think I see the point but I don't think we'd be able to work on this in the near future. Servers like Asterisk already handle this properly for example, not to mention Kamailio.

Objective: The ability to have a "speed dial" by adding a contact and
double clicking the contact to make a call. Granted, if a contact has
already been added, you can easily type in the contact name to search
and double click there to call.

Or show offline contacts

Is there a way to have a contact appear "online" if your
provider does not do presence via property editor?

        Thanks,
