[jitsi-dev] Can't create new account

#1

Hi Devs,

Thanks to Anthony's generous offer of setting up an xmpp account as patts.us,
I tried to take advantage of this by trying to setup up a new account
within Jitsi, but unfortunately, this only results in an error, "We failed
to create your account due to the following error: null" within Jitsi on
the add new account page.

See screenshot for connection details. I've also tried using
jitsiiscool@patts.us as the username and it shows the same error.

Jitsi Windows 7 64 bit 2.4764
Windows 7 Home premium

This was also an issue with the Deb package but with a slightly different
error message. I'll report that error at a later time.

Thanks,
jungle

Have you tried using jitsiiscool@patts.us as the XMPP username?

Hello Ingo,

Very interesting---I'm now able to create accounts without needing to
suffix with the domain. Previously, it didn't matter if the username had @
patts.us or not, the error message was the same. Since I first reported the
issue, I've rebooted my computer for unrelated things, but it may have
cleared that up or patts.us may have made changes. Either way, I'll test it
out on my debian derivative soon.

Best,
jungle

Attached is a screenshot of the create new account window in Jitsi on
GNU/Linux Mint. The error simply states: We failed to create your account
due to the following error: null
(see screenshot new-xmpp-mint.png)
The same error happens when omitting the domain name as well.

Linux mintrasta 3.5.0-17-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 9 19:32:08 UTC 2012
i686 athlon i686 GNU/Linux running Jitsi 2.3.4765

If I click on advanced to open up the account registration wizard and type
in the username with the domain at the suffix, I receive the following
error:
java.lang.NullPointerException
at
net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.jabberaccregwizz.JabberAccountCreationForm.showErrorMessage(JabberAccountCreationForm.java:277)
at
net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.jabberaccregwizz.JabberAccountCreationForm.createJabberAccount(JabberAccountCreationForm.java:182)
at
net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.jabberaccregwizz.JabberAccountCreationForm.createAccount(JabberAccountCreationForm.java:205)
at
net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.jabberaccregwizz.JabberAccountRegistrationForm.commitPage(JabberAccountRegistrationForm.java:262)
at
net.java.sip.communicator.plugin.jabberaccregwizz.FirstWizardPage.commitPage(FirstWizardPage.java:121)
at
net.java.sip.communicator.impl.gui.customcontrols.wizard.WizardController$PageCommitThread.run(WizardController.java:145)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:722)

(see screenshot new-xmpp-mint1.png)

The steps I take to reproduce the former message:
0. turn computer on
1. login to computer, if necessary
2. open jitsi
3. In jitsi's main window, look for tools
4. click on tools
5. look for options
6. click on options
7. from the accounts tab, click on add
8. Click on the dropdown menu pertaining to network
9. select XMPP
10. Choose create a new XMPP account
11. type in patts.us as the server (this could be supplemented for anther,
though)
12. type in a username
13. type in a password
14. retype the same password
15. leave the port untouched
16. press add
17. do you observe the same error as above? (We failed to create your
account due to the following error: null)

all the best,
jungle
