[jitsi-dev] [bug?] empty "JavaEmbeddedFrame" in Gnome3 with Jitsi 2.0.4506.10553 (Fedora 18)

#1

Hi,

I've just installed Jitsi on Fedora 18 x86_64 using the Jitsi
2.0.4506.10553 RPM provided here:
https://download.jitsi.org/jitsi/rpm/

When running, there appears to be an empty "window" that cannot be
viewed/accessed/closed, but appears in the active windows list. When
alt-tabbing through windows in Gnome 3, my instance of Jitsi currently
has 3:

Jitsi itself (buddy list, essentially)
Chat window (titled with the person that I have a chat open with)
JavaEmbeddedFrame (empty, inaccessible, non-closeable window)

Does this sound like a bug?

Relevant information:
Linux t510dora.festive.local 3.8.1-201.fc18.x86_64 (Fedora 18)
gnome-shell-3.6.3.1-1.fc18.x86_64
jitsi-2.0-4506.10553.x86_64

Unfortunately I can't seem to find a way to take a screenshot during
alt-tabbing or while the Gnome Shell activity window is up.

I've attached the log.0 file. What I did to create it was this:

* shut down Jitsi
* rm -rf all the files in the .jitsi folder
* start jitsi
* hit the archive logs button

I then attached the zip.

Let me know if you need me to put this somewhere or if I need to run
some kind of debug mode or something.

Hello,

I'm experiencing the same issue on my Archlinux with Gnome 3.

I have one more problem with it:
Sometimes when I start Jitsi I have only this JavaEmbeddedFrame and the
main window of Jitsi is hidden. To show the main window I should run one
more instance of Jitsi or use the globalshortcut. The main window is not
listed in the list when I press Alt + Tab.

Hi Erik,

Thanks for the logs. Unfortunately they don't reveal anything abnormal.

Anyone else experiencing the same problem?

Erik, is the window appearing at the beginning when you start the application?

The window appears immediately on application start, essentially
coinciding with the main Jitsi window opening.

I've also noticed a similar/related issue. When clicking the "super"
key that brings up the activity menu in Gnome 3, clicking on the Jitsi
icon in the "tray" doesn't do anything. Right-click and left-click both
do nothing. So, if you "x" out of the Jitsi main window, which
"minimizes" the application, you have no way to get it back because
clicking on its icon does nothing.

Additionally, the icon that appears in the Gnome 3 "tray" is
misformatted. If the pixel size of the whole area is 100x100, the Jitsi
logo is only taking up 20x20. The rest of the space (at this moment) is
white, but I've also seen black.

It appears that there are some weird issues with Jitsi and Gnome 3. Are
any of the devs running Linux with some kind of Gnome3/Gnome-Shell?
(Fedora, Ubuntu, etc)

Hi,

I've got Mint, Nadja on Cinnamon. The same effect occurs with me as well. I cannot bring up Jitsi's main window by clicking the task list - going to the Window overview (upper left corner) helps.

Not that it is a showstopper or too much effort to do so- but it'd be nicer if Jitsi ran like before like any other program.

Greetings
Conrad

misformatted.

Hi all,

Any additional thoughts on these issues?

Cheers,
Yana

Yes, it isn't normal. Thanks for reporting.

Relevant information:
Linux t510dora.festive.local 3.8.1-201.fc18.x86_64 (Fedora 18)
gnome-shell-3.6.3.1-1.fc18.x86_64
jitsi-2.0-4506.10553.x86_64

Unfortunately I can't seem to find a way to take a screenshot during
alt-tabbing or while the Gnome Shell activity window is up.

In order to further investigate the issue we'll need your logs (https://jitsi.org/Documentation/FAQ#logs). Could you please send them to us?

I've attached the log.0 file. What I did to create it was this:

* shut down Jitsi
* rm -rf all the files in the .jitsi folder
* start jitsi
* hit the archive logs button

I then attached the zip.

Let me know if you need me to put this somewhere or if I need to run
some kind of debug mode or something.

Cheers,
Yana

Hi Erik,

We've had a quick look at the issue and didn't find the reason. I was quite busy lately, but I'll try to add some logs that could help us to further investigate the problem. In the meantime if you find any new elements on the subject don't hesitate to ping us.

Unfortunately most of the BlueJimp team is currently held up with other tasks so if anyone else wants to have a look, please do.
