[jitsi-dev] Bug - Canceling untrusted certificate

#1

Hello, Sacred Developers!

I'm not a developer. I've had one class in VB, and so, a little knowledge being a dangerous thing, I'd ask you to please bear with me. Also, I've never used video chat or IM, and only have email contacts. I got this to hopefully video chat with my family, if I can convince them to give up Skype. I did my research, and really respect what you're doing.

I just installed Jitsi for the first time. I have tried to set up an account, my first one, using Google Talk. I have a Google and gMail account, and used that username and password. I have confirmed they work, by logging into my account on my Gmail account. My username is a non-Google email address. I hit "Sign In", and the following appears:

I did this twice. The first time, I checked "Always trust this certificate" (like I would know...), and hit "Continue anyway". The app kept running smoothly, but the account said it was offline, so I thought there was something wrong. I didn't try to use it, as I haven't been ready to do that yet.

I deleted the account, went looking for the certificate to delete it, unsuccessfully, restarted the computer, ran a registry cleaner, and checked my Google login info by logging into my Gmail account. I tried to log in to my Fastmail account, but they've updated their site recently (my bookmark went to a page with a link to their new login page), and although I can log in successfully, the next page won't load on either my PC or Mac. Figure that one out later... Maybe their update is the fly in the ointment? Maybe that I'm using a foreign email address as my Google username...

Anyway, tried creating same account in Jitsi again, same thing happened, but this time I hit "Cancel". Verify Certificate window closed, but Options window froze. Only sign of life was the windows forms - animation when clicking the X cancel button, and I could resize it, but without the content resizing itself. I could click on the main Jitsi window, and the focus would shift, but neither a complaint about having to close the Options window first, nor did the window come to the top.

I have Process Explorer, and expected to find Jitsi "Not responding", but it was just sitting there, inactive. I eventually killed the inner Jitsi process under the main app process, and a widow appeared "Oops - Jitsi just crashed. Would you like to restart it? Restarted, "Verify Certificate" came up again. Hit "Continue anyway" without checking "Always trust this certificate", and a new window came up, saying that Google wasn't accepting my password. Re-entered password v-e-r-y carefully, failed again.

The freezing seemed to be infectious. As I was dragging a file over the frozen Jitsi windows, the animated image stopped mid-way, as you can see (I removed the destination folder so you could see the Options window), did not copy itself to the thumbdrive window I had opened, and the originating folder froze. It's gettin' cold in here...

I hope that's enough. My operating system:

Jitsi release: jitsi-1.1.4388.10227-x86

I couldn't find the log file. Maybe because I haven't used it yet?

Good luck, brave warriors!

Hey

I cannot reproduce any of your observations with the same version and
fastmail.us. Could you try to delete your configuration (it's located in the
folder just above the logfiles) and if that doesn't help, could you send us
your logfiles [1]?

Regards,
Ingo

Hello, Sacred Developers!

I'm not a developer. I've had one class in VB, and so, a little knowledge
being a dangerous thing, I'd ask you to please bear with me. Also, I've

never

used video chat or IM, and only have email contacts. I got this to

Thank you, Ingo

Did as you suggested, and it seems to have worked. Don't know anyone I can test it with yet, but I'll work on that.

My specific actions:
(With Jitsi running.) Deleted "keybindings" folder.
Quit Jitsi
Re-started Jitsi.
Google Talk authentication window came up again, asking for my password.
Closed window.
Deleted account.
Quit Jitsi.
Deleted "keybindings" folder again.
Restarted Jitsi.
Sign in window came up, signed into Google Talk again.
All is well.
Quit and restarted Jitsi.
Still fine.

I'm sorry you couldn't reproduce my problem. Perhaps it's a rare enough thing to ignore for now, but I'd like to send my latest log file anyway, in case someone wants to attack it in the future.
