[jitsi-dev] Auto-away not working in nightly?

#1

Hi all,

I don't recall ever having seen auto-away actually switching status to
away on Linux. On the users-list was also a question regarding the
auto-away feature. (See
http://lists.jitsi.org/pipermail/users/2014-December/008329.html) This
person is running WIndows 8.

I've tried again a few days ago, but without any luck. Can anyone
confirm that auto-away works for them?

Danny

Win7 x86 and x64 here, working as intended.

Hi,

for Linux what I can think of is that for some reason
libxss(X11/extensions/scrnsaver.h) is not working.
XScreenSaverAllocInfo()->idle
https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi/blob/master/src/native/sysactivity/net_java_sip_communicator_impl_sysactivity_SystemActivityNotifications.c#L46

Ah right, so I'll have to look there. To be honest, I'm not that
surprised if it wouldn't work for Linux. I've disabled a lot of these
power saving, screensaving options.
I was surprised by the user's report on Windows 8 though. That's what
caused me to doubt.

Thanks!

I've never seen auto-away work for linux, and tried on 2.4 and latest
nightlies, and from-git builds.

Okay. I did check some requirements a few days ago. It turns out there
is a native library that gets loaded. There is a 32-bit and a 64-bit
variant available. The auto-away implementation depends on a generic
"system event" implementation that in turns uses that library. I haven't
figured out yet which part of the chain is failing, though.

I'll keep an eye out for this.
