[jitsi-announce] jit.si beta launch

#1

We have just launched our brand new http://jit.si service. The purpose
of this service is to provide an easy way for people to make video calls
over XMPP using Jingle and a Jingle Nodes relay (Yay! No more NAT
traversal issues!).

Feel free to open an account and start talking!

Emil

P.S. Keep in mind that this is mostly a test launch. Jitsi is, above
all, a client. Development is hence our main priority and we will be
providing best-effort maintenance.

Hopefully other major XMPP services would also start providing
standardized relaying solutions in the near future.

#2

INFO: impl.protocol.jabber.ProtocolProviderServiceJabberImpl.run().2065
Found 1 Jingle Nodes relay

I have not yet used it, but that is great!

Cheers,
Andreas

Hello,
user here.
I created the account with jit.si but what next? How can I use it? What
should I do/setup on Jitsi?

Also, for bugs, how can I report them (I have one bug in the installation
phase)

Thanks and regards

Hi Andrea,

Hello,
user here.
I created the account with jit.si but what next? How can I use it? What should I do/setup on Jitsi?

Just create a new Jabber account with your jit.si username and password through the File / "Add new account" window.

Also, for bugs, how can I report them (I have one bug in the installation phase)

You can send the description of the bug here. Please make sure to indicate your operating system, java version and jitsi build.

Hope this helps,
Yana

Hello,

I have also problems to connect to the newly created jit.si account:

Username: juergen.gluch
Email: juergen.gluch@googlemail.com
Password: xxxxxxx

And on my jitsi client (1.0-beta1-nightly.build.3577, WinXP) I choose "add
new account...", network "Jabber (XMPP)":

Jabber username: juergen.gluch@jit.si
Password: as above

and after "Add" I get the error message "Unable to connect the following
account: User name: juergen.gluch@jit.si, Server name: jit.si. You are
currently offline."
I am behind a proxy and I think its settings are OK, because I am able to
chat via an ICQ and an Google Talk account (but voice and video calls are
always greyed out).

Any Ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

Jürgen

Seems to be a connectivity issue. Can you try from another network?

Also note that we currently only support UDP as a transport. Calls
through an http proxy won't work at this point. You have to have UDP
access to the internet.

GoogleTalk support is just around the corner but not quite there yet.
You'd have to wait a couple of more weeks for calls to GoogleTalk to work.

Cheers,
Emil

Hello Emil,

You are right, it works from another PC that not behind the firewall.
And I look really forward to have video calls to Google Talk Friends.

Btw. is it better to setup the Google Talk Account with the preset "Google
Talk"-network or to use an the "Jabber (XMPP)"-network?

Which component(s) would need to be extended to enable the rest?
