Embedding meet.jit.si is only meant for demo purposes, so this call will disconnect in 5 minutes. Please use Jitsi as a service for production embedding

Hello everyone,

I’ve been a very happy and grateful user of meet.jit.si.

For two years, it was integrated in my web app, and it works like a charm. And a part of me always believed that this service is just too good to be true. It was a real life saver for my startup.

However, today the users can only stay in a call for 5 minutes. This wasn’t the case yesterday.

And when the call starts they see this message:

“Embedding meet.jit.si is only meant for demo purposes, so this call will disconnect in 5 minutes. Please use Jitsi as a service for production embedding.”

This has surprised because it was sudden however I had a hunch that sooner or later such a thing would happen (same hunch with Chatgpt now). It’s just too good to be free forever.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe this means I will have to start paying to embed meet.jit.si.

While I would have been a very happy paying customer, my startup hasn’t yet secured funding, so this won’t be possible for me now.

Any tips/recommendations are more than appreciated.

Once again, I’d like to thank the Jitsi team for this great product and service.

Best!

Hey Freddie,
I saw you wrote this:
“You STILL have options - you can host your own server, bear the cost of providing the resources and have absolute control over your environment. There are cloud hosting services that can facilitate this if you don’t want to have physical infrastructure. And you’ll STILL be using Jitsi’s proprietary solution FOR FREE. That anyone would complain about this is just bizarre to me.”

I was going to do this to make the logo disappear and access other features.

When I saw the 5 min limit today, I also thought I lost my ability to do this as well.

So basically, do you confirm that all I have to do is host my own Jitsi instance and continue using embedding as it is?

I can do this because I have AWS credits.

If this is the case, I think all is well.

Yes, the embedding restriction is only on meet.jit.si because of the associated costs. If you host your own server (or subscribe to JaaS), there are no restrictions on embedding.
