Disconnected After 30 seconds 1 user

I created the site using the quick start instructions. I can log in. But after about 30 seconds I get the error, You have been disconnected. You may want to check your network connection. Rejoin now

Can anyone help

I had a similar problem with I first built my Jitsi server.

Sad thing is that I cannot remember the fix. Hint: patience helps.

  1. It might have been I had missed something in my firewall settings, I had thought I had opened up the appropriate incoming ports, but made a mistake.

Are you using Nginx or Apache2 ?

  1. I carefully checked my changes using the information from following links:
    https://jitsi.org/downloads/ubuntu-debian-installations-instructions
    Self-Hosting Guide - Debian/Ubuntu server · Jitsi Meet Handbook
    jitsi-meet/jitsi-meet.example-apache at master · jitsi/jitsi-meet · GitHub

  2. Because I did something wrong the first time I did the install, I then did the ‘apt purge’ mentioned in the above links, and reran “apt install jitsi-meet”, which gave me a clean setup and a clean apache2 conf for my Jitsi server. Clean as in free of my mistakes when I first did the install.

  3. Checking these logs for 'error’s led me to find issues I had to resolve too.

/var/log/jitsi/jvb.log
/var/log/jitsi/jicofo.log
/var/log/prosody/prosody.log

I did adjust the firewall setting on the server like the instructions stated. I have not touched our watchguard firewall. This server is going to be used internally only. I do know that when I run the apt update, it tells me there are updates but does not update them.

image001.jpg

Is this server a new server or a previously built server that was previously used for other tasks? Well I guess it does not matter too much, but apt should update the server.

# apt update && apt dist-upgrade -y"

If the above does not apply updates, then likely there are firewall rules causing issues, or the linux server itself has serious issues.

I have not been successful in installing Jitsi unless it is Internet facing, that is I cannot use in internally only, so many things will did not work for me.

If others how know Jitsi well see your post, hopefully they will comment on how to install Jitsi internally without being internet facing, and using not an Internet registered FQDN.

What type of SSL certificates are you using? Company owned Trusted CA Signed SSL Certificate, LetsEncrypt, or Self Signed Certificate ?

I was able to update the packages now, thank you. Still getting the same issue.

Any “error” messages in your log files?

Can I ask how I look at the log files?

stevek65,

The log files which I look at are:

/var/log/prosody/prosody.err
/var/log/prosody/prosody.log
/var/log/letsencrypt/letsencrypt.log
/var/log/jitsi/jicofo.log
/var/log/jitsi/jvb.log

Using commands like

# grep -iRl 'Fail' /var/log/jitsi/
# grep -i 'Fail' /var/log/jitsi/jicofo.log

Depending on which web server you use, e.g. nginx or Apache2 check the access and error logs for your Jitsi server in /var/log/[apache2 or nginx]
