Creating jitsi rooms with limited numbers available, and option to see how many are already in the room

Hi guys, I’m basically looking for a way to do what has been done here as it would work really well for a project I’m running: https://www.bar.live/en/bar/the-central-park

I have a wordpress site, and at the moment I link to jitsi rooms, but have no way of a) limiting the amount of users in each room, and b) allowing users to see how many people are in a room before they join.

Hi,

you can use the prosody module https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet/blob/master/resources/prosody-plugins/mod_muc_max_occupants.lua to limite the number of participant.

Looks like there is also another plugin to know create an api to get hte number of participant

Thanks maxired. I am just using the basic server from https://meet.jit.si/ though, would I still be able to use this? Or would I have to be using my own server?

@Ste You’ll need to setup your own server for this.

Thanks @Sanjay_Goyal at least I have that confirmed. I run a weekly meeting, that has about 100 user spread across 10 rooms, the meeting lasts 3 hours. Apart from that I don’t need a server. I wondered if anyone knew the cheapest way of dealing with this? It’s obviously quite a lot of people at one time, but then for the rest of the week I don’t need anything.

Hi @Ste,

We’ve been working on our automated spin-up/spin-down Jitsi based VC solution.

Happy to have a chat with you via message to see if we can help you with your above requirements.
Basically, you’d have a “pay per meeting” consumption model.

Many thanks
Neil

I confirm you would need a custom server for using that extension

Something you could do is setup a Virtual Machine on GCP/AWS and turn it off when you don’t use it.
I will be happy to discuss this further with you.
