Conference Backend: possible without AWT tokens? Installation guides?

Hi everyone,

I am trying to set up a jitsi meet instance, and want to check each conference creation with a custom conference callback endpoint. This doesn’t seem to work so far. This is what I did:

  • added the -Dorg.jitsi.impl.reservation.rest.BASE_URL=https://xxxxxxxx.ngrok.io option to /etc/jitsi/jicofo/config
  • alternatively explicitely added the option to the command line in /etc/init.d/jicofo.
  • restarted jicofo
  • checked that the option is present in the command line, via “ps aux | grep jicofo”

Results: there is no callback to my callback URL ever. Also, /var/log/jitsi/jicofo.log does not print "REST reservation API will use base URL: ", as I would expect it to do according to https://github.com/jitsi/jicofo/blob/master/src/main/java/org/jitsi/impl/reservation/rest/Activator.java#L64, so I guess I either have a wrong configuration or am missing some prerequisite.

This is an installation on Ubuntu 18.04. I tried this with packages from both Apr 17th and Apr 10th, with identical, i.e. non-working, results. All installation hints that I found on the internet seem to require JWT tokens to be enabled. Is this a hard requirement? Note that the “jiti-meet-tokens” package can not be installed currently, because it requires prosody 0.11, which does not exist on Ubuntu 18.04 (and, given the LTS status, probably never will.)
